In a recent press release, RISE Dispensaries, a cannabis retail chain that is owned by Green Thumb Industries Inc. (Green Thumb), announced that they were beginning adult-use cannabis sales when the state of Minnesota began allowing adult-use cannabis sales last week (1,2). RISE Dispensaries has locations in New Hope, Willmar, Brooklyn Park, Mankato, and Eagan. The establishment celebrated the start of adult-use cannabis sales with a ribbon cutting ceremony an hour before doors opened at 9am. Following the ribbon cutting ceremony, customers were able to enjoy a variety of offerings from RISE Dispensaries, such as special giveaways, music, and food. The company donated the profits from the first day of adult-use cannabis sales to local nonprofit organizations that included Metro Meals on Wheels and Balanced Veterans Network (1).

Medical cannabis first began in the North Star State in 2021 (1). With the launch of adult-use sales, RISE Dispensaries offered customers the option to purchase several different types of products from Green Thumb’s product portfolio which included items such as “RYTHM flower, Beboe gummies, Dogwalkers pre-rolls, Good Green pre-rolls, and &Shine vapes and gummies”, (1).

“We are excited to celebrate this historic day in Minnesota with the launch of adult-use cannabis sales,” said Green Thumb President Anthony Georgiadis (1). “Our team is looking forward to introducing more Minnesotans to our industry-leading brands including RYTHM, Beboe, and Dogwalkers, while continuing to prioritize medical patients with the trusted service they expect from RISE, including exclusive curbside pick-up and priority parking at select locations.”

The press release mentioned that Green Thumb is supporting the community additionally through donating to the Annunciation Hope & Healing Fund via the Minneapolis Foundation that were recently affected by the recent Minneapolis tragedy (1).

“Balanced Veterans Network is honored to join forces with RISE Dispensaries in Minnesota to bring life-changing resources to our veteran community,” said Balanced Veterans Network Chief of Operations C.J. Cowgill (1). “Together, we’re breaking access barriers by offering no-cost medical cannabis referrals and mindful cannabis use education. Beyond these programs, our shared mission is to create a safe, supportive space where veterans can reconnect, heal, and rediscover the sense of purpose and belonging that so many struggle to find after their service."

“At Meals on Wheels, we believe no senior should have to choose between paying bills and putting food on the table due to fixed incomes,” said Metro Meals on Wheels Executive Director Patrick Rowan (1). “Too many in our community are facing that impossible choice, and the demand for our services is at an all-time high. As an organization that relies on community donations to ensure we can continue meeting this growing need, we are thrilled to partner with RISE Dispensaries in Minnesota to help support seniors in our community.”

In Minnesota, Green Thumb has a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility located in Cottage Grove, as well as eight RISE Dispensaries.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz Signs Second Tribal-State Cannabis Compact

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz recently signed the second Tribal-state compact that was authorized under state statute (2). With the new agreement, the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe and the state of Minnesota will be able to work together to “promote a cooperative and mutually beneficial relationship to regulate cannabis and promote public health and safety,” (2). The Minnesota Legislature instructed the governor “to negotiate intergovernmental agreements—cannabis compacts—with Tribal Nations sharing territory with Minnesota to enhance public health and safety, ensure a lawful and well-regulated cannabis market, encourage economic development, and provide financial benefits to both the state and Tribal Nations,” (2).

“These milestones reflect the diligent work of many people committed to growing an equitable and sustainable cannabis market in Minnesota,” said OCM Executive Director Eric Taubel (2). “I look forward to seeing the market mature over the next few years as we continue to prioritize public health and safety, consumer confidence, and market integrity."
