When it comes to indoor cannabis cultivation, although easier to control the environment than with outdoor methods, it comes with additional costs. A recent press release from Superior LED Technologies (1), disclosed the company’s new full spectrum LED lighting technology product line called “Peak PRO”. Superior LED Technologies newest item in their portfolio is meant to be utilized for growing cannabis flower and “features the highest efficiency and performance of any other LED lights in the industry,” (1). Peak PRO helps with sustainability efforts and energy savings.
“Two of the biggest challenges for growers and businesses today are the high cost of energy and the risk of lighting failures,” Rodger Olivares, Co-President and Chief Technology Officer of Superior LED Technologies mentioned (1). “Our lighting has already far surpassed others in the industry in reliability, and today we are pleased to announce that our performance and efficiency offer cultivators more value than ever thought possible. We are the first to offer 3.1 PPE full spectrum in the industry.”
The Peak PRO is offered in a variety of wattages. Such as, 680E, 840W, and 1050W. Superior LED Technologies unveiled that their newest addition “…promises up to a 12% bump in performance over existing LED technologies in the industry, along with an incredible 90% increase in performance over traditional HPS lights (based on the 1050W model),” (1). Peak PRO features a 3.1 Photosynthetic Proton Efficacy (PPE) which is the measurement of a light source’s efficiency and how it converts the energy into light (1). If there is a higher PPE, the type of lighting has an increased efficiency. The new lighting technology contains Cryo-Therm cooling technology and provides strong airflow to help lower micoclimates.
“Cultivation costs and productivity are the key factors driving cannabis operator profits today and ultimately serve as the deciding factor on whether a company merely survives or thrives,” Olivares explained (1). “If a cannabis business wants to succeed, its cultivation technology had better be able to outgrow the competition. The new Peak PRO line is the lighting tool that can make a critical difference in a facility’s overall costs and output.”
