Last week, Strong Strains, an East Setauket cannabis dispensary located on Long Island, New York, was issued a cease-and-desist letter from the property owners because they mentioned that the company violated the “Northgate Plaza at Stony Brook Condominium’s property rules,” (1).
On June 20, 2025, Strong Strains issued a response to the letter. “Strong Island Chronic LLC d/b/a Strong Strains holds a valid license from the State of New York to operate a retail marijuana business,” the press release said (2). “Strong Strains operates its business at 19 Technology Drive, East Setauket, New York (the ‘Premises’), in accordance with a valid Special Use Permit granted on December 27, 2024, by the Town of Brookhaven Board of Zoning Appeals. On May 27, 2025, the Town of Brookhaven issued a Permanent Certificate of Compliance for the operation of a retail marijuana sale establishment at the Premises.”
Brookhaven Town Supervisor Dan Panico explained in a statement made to News 12 (1), “This owner has all the necessary approvals from Brookhaven Town. The issues between him and the industrial condominium association are a private conflict in which the town has no role.”
The new dispensary mentioned that they are in accordance with approvals and permits issued by New York State, as well as local government authorities (2). Additionally they mentioned that (2) “We take seriously our obligation to comply with the law and our responsibility to the public to comply with the same, and any claim to the contrary is untrue.”
The press release continues to mention that (2), “Strong Strains is a member of the local community and values its relationship with its customers and neighbors. As such, we will continue to operate in accordance with our legal obligations and remain open for business. We greatly appreciate and welcome your support.”
Strong Strains held their grand opening on Saturday, June 21, 2025, and are “committed to upholding the highest standards of compliance, transparency, and service within New York’s regulated adult-use cannabis market,” (2).
