In honor of National Hemp Day, Cannabis Science and Technology has compiled a roundup of articles related to federal hemp regulation:

USDA Announces Upcoming Hemp Survey for 2024 Data Collection

On December 20, 2024, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced details of the upcoming survey conducted by its National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS), the federal statistical agency that collects data related to agriculture in the US. The Hemp Production and Disposition Inquiry would be sent to over 400 hemp producers in Arizona, Colorado, Montana, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming (1).

AOAC INTERNATIONAL’s ISO 17043 Accreditation Expanded to Cannabis and Hemp Oil Proficiency Testing

AOAC INTERNATIONAL announced in November of 2024 that the organization had expanded its ISO/IEC 17043 accreditation to include six cannabis and hemp oil proficiency testing (PT) programs. The proficiency testing programs received accreditation from the American Association for Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA) (2).

Senate Committee has released the text of 2024 Farm Bill, with changes to hemp regulations

The US Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry announced the introduction of the Rural Prosperity and Food Security Act, this legislation then served as the Senate’s draft for the 2024 Farm Bill. The Rural Prosperity and Food Security Act aims to establish new regulations regarding the cultivation and harvesting of hemp (3)

US Hemp Authority Unveil New Adult Use Delta-9-THC and Delta-8-THC Certificate Program

The US Hemp Authority (USHA) revealed their new adult use certificate program for delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and delta-8-THC. Currently the USHA has a five-year program targeted for non-intoxicating hemp and cannabidiol (CBD) products. The US government has not instated federal regulations on the hemp or cannabis industry so there are no uniformed quality control measures established to provide guidance. The adult certification program is set to educate policymakers and consumers to help them to decipher quality manufacturers in the industry (4).
