Let’s dive into the top stories shaping the conversation this week. Summaries of each article are listed below.

1. Voters' Will vs. New Rules: The Battle for Medical Cannabis in Nebraska

Nebraska Medical Cannabis Commission members announced that they had approved more regulations that would limit a patients’ access to obtaining medical cannabis products. These new regulations will need to be approved by Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen.

By approving rules that pile on new barriers and unlawfully restrict forms of cannabis, they are dismantling what the people demanded at the ballot box,” Crista Eggers, executive director of Nebraskans for Medical Marijuana, said in a statement. “This is a direct assault on patients, families and the democratic process itself. Nebraskans voted for access to medicine. Instead, the commission delivered defiance, obstruction and betrayal.”

In 2024, voters had approved to legalize medical cannabis through two ballot initiatives, supported by Nebraskan voters by two to one.

2. Congress Members Urge Attorney General to Reject Cannabis Rescheduling to Schedule III

Multiple members of Congress sent a two-page letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi urging the rejection of cannabis rescheduling. President Donald Trump is also cc’d on the letter.

“We write to urge you to reject the Biden Administration’s corrupt and flawed recommendation to reclassify marijuana as a Schedule III drug,” the letter begins. “Rescheduling marijuana would send a message to kids that marijuana is not harmful and allow Big Marijuana and foreign drug cartels to get billions per year in federal tax breaks.”

The main arguments in the letter focus on:

  • The CSA system of scheduling.
  • The potential tax breaks for illegal businesses.
  • The risk of harm to children.

3. Thailand's Crossroad: Will New Leadership Spark Cannabis Legalization?

The cannabis industry in Thailand is constantly shifting. In June 2025, the Thailand government declared that they were changing their policy on cannabis and that this would result in access only being approved for medical use.

On September 5, 2025, Thailand’s parliament voted and appointed as the new Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, a conservative who has advocated on the campaign trail to decriminalize cannabis. Charnvirakul also advocated for the legalization of cannabis in 2022.

The previous Prime Minister was Paetongtarn Shinawatra, who was removed from political office via a court ruling.

4. Medical Cannabis Research Update: Cancer, Wound Healing, ALS, Alzheimer’s, and Terpenes
