Pre-Roll Automation Machinery: Interview with Kyle Loucks

Madeline Colli: Now we can get into the machinery. How does the RollPros Blackbird machine differ from other automated pre-roll machines, such as those that use the stuffed cone or knock box methods?

Kyle Loucks: We're mechanically rolling every single joint, and by doing that we are actually compressing it radially, so, as opposed to filling a cone, where you're totally dependent on the grind and the moisture content of your flower. Just to fill it, we allow you to open up and use, you know, fresh flower, high quality, you know, well cured flower. Then our actual technique for rolling it, you can change how tightly rolled it is, just by the click of a button. So, you can change that draw. I always call it, "dialing in the draw." That's something that, with the cone stuffers, I call it "grind and pray," like you grind it, and you pray that your customers are going to be able to pull on this thing. But my machine, we have the draw check machine as well, where you can actually measure the draw on the joint. So, you know, that every single joint that ends up in your customer's hands is going to be a good smoking joint.
