One of the largest companies in the world—Apple—quietly changed its policy regarding apps that handle the sale and delivery of cannabis.
In the past, several large tech companies, including Facebook and Google, have not acknowledged the legality of industrial hemp or cannabis. In June 2021, the fine print of Apple’s “App Store Review Guidelines” release stated that apps handling sales and delivery of medical and recreational cannabis in legal jurisdictions are now allowed on the App Store. It also stated that apps involved in the sale of cannabis are exclusive to licensed legal entities and strictly require geo-fencing within the legal jurisdiction.
Unlike recent headlines from other business and institutions, such as Amazon and the National Football League (NFL), which have shown changing attitudes toward cannabis, Apple did not make a widespread announcement.
