PerkinElmer, Inc., announced a collaboration with Emerald Scientific, in which Emerald Scientific will offer PerkinElmer’s cannabis and hemp testing portfolio and services to its North American customers.
According to the company press release (1), Emerald Scientific customers will now be able to take advantage of PerkinElmer’s high throughput, advanced instruments and regulatory compliant software for cannabis and hemp testing including:
- A liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (LC–MS) system for rapid identification and quantitation of pesticides, mycotoxins, and emerging residue contaminants
- A microwave sample preparation system for sample digestion for heavy metal analysis of cannabis flower, concentrates, and edibles
- A gas chromatography–MS (GC–MS) system, offering sensitivity and stability for identification and quantitation of volatile and semivolatile compounds such as residual solvents and terpenes
- A high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) system to quantitate all major and minor cannabinoids in a cannabis or hemp matrix
The collaboration also reportedly enables both Emerald Scientific and PerkinElmer customers to utilize PerkinElmer’s analytical methods and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for cannabis and hemp analysis, which outline best practice sample preparation, acquisition methods, and consumable use. In addition, PerkinElmer’s services will be offered as well as their consumables such as chromatography columns, vials, and sample prep products.
