Peter Maguire, Lighthouse Worldwide Solutions, will give a keynote talk today in Rooms A105–A106 starting at 4:20 p.m. The talk is titled “Indoor Cultivation, The New Clean Room.” Maguire recently spoke to us about his talk and other sessions he’s excited about attending this week.
Can you give us a little preview of your keynote talk for the 2019 Cannabis Science Conference West?
Peter Maguire: The talk will be on the use of clean room technology in the cannabis industry. Clean rooms are used to manufacture everything from semiconductor products such as flat panel displays to pharmaceutical products to organic lettuce. The advantages of utilizing clean room technology is in the ability to control key environmental parameters that can have an adverse effect on the quality of the product being grown. When we are talking strictly about the medicinal properties of cannabis, controlling environmental factors is key. In addition, a clean room and or clean room protocols can act as a key part of an IPM program (integrated pest management).
What do you hope attendees will take away from your keynote?
Maguire: I hope the attendees will gain insight on how they can utilize clean rooms and clean manufacturing protocols to help improve yields and produce more consistent medicine.
What are you hoping to learn or take away from this year’s conference? Are there any other talks you plan to attend?
Maguire: Every year I learn valuable information from this conference. It’s one of the few conferences that provides real scientific information for our industry and makes a positive impact on people’s lives.
